Thank you Julie Pryor, Just Joan, Karen C-Collector of Books 📖, Christine, fin, and many others for tuning into my live video with Dr. Amber Hull! Join me for my next live video in the app.
Open Dialogue is my recurring monthly Substack Live:
Everyone can watch,
Only paid Passport 2 Pleasure subscribers can engage with me, my guest(s), and each other in the live chat,
Only paid Passport 2 Pleasure subscribers can access the full replay and leave questions and comments for us to respond to.
But this month, as our holiday gift to you—all access is free for everyone! Dr. Amber and I believe deeply that this level of information should be free and accessible to all, especially at this early stage in the currently unfolding research and conversation around peri/menopausal hormonal health.
If you would like to support my work here on Passport 2 Pleasure, pleasure consider:
The live sessions are always freely available to everyone and this month’s featured a special guest. I won’t always have a guest, but when I do, they will be kick ass.
‘A Mini Pause’
This month’s guest is Dr. Amber Hull, an internationally licensed and US Board Certified women’s health physician who practices in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner and is an active member of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health.
She sees adolescent, young adult, midlife and postmenopausal patients in her clinical practice; looking at health through the lens of mind-body medicine, hormone balance and functional longevity.
Dr. Hull takes an evidence-based, integrative approach to women’s health; considering measurable goals within the context of improving quality of life. You can find her writing on Substack at Under the White Coat.
In this episode we explored topics like:
“I don’t feel like myself” — What emotional and cognitive signs do you see most often misdiagnosed as depression, anxiety, ADHD, or burnout? What timing patterns help distinguish hormone swings from a primary mood disorder?
The misdiagnosis ripple effect: How does a missed perimenopause diagnosis typically strain a relationship over time?
Desire vs. arousal and the stories we invent: We separated physiology from emotional considerations like love and commitment. When libido drops or becomes unpredictable, what is really going on vs. what story or meaning do we assign it—and how does that erode trust?
Pain, dryness, and avoidance loops: How do untreated GSM symptoms fuel avoidance that looks like disinterest?
A partner’s role without policing: What does supportive look like without turning the partner into a project manager?
Testosterone, minus the magic wand: Where can a monitored testosterone trial help with desire, mood, or focus—and where is it oversold?
When cancer risk is in the room: How do you handle MHT (fka HRT) decisions with BRCA family history or elevated risk anxiety?
And I shared my personal story with this and how starting MHT not only changed, but quite literally saved my life in my post earlier this month:
If you didn’t get to ask your question in the Live, or you thought of something else, please don’t hesitate to drop it in the comments. I read them all. And don’t be afraid to respectfully and curiously engage with each other in the comments as well. This is meant to be a conversation where we can all learn from each other!
It was so fitting to round out the year with Dr. Amber as my guest as she was one of my first ever Open Dialogue guests back in January of this year when we were both in the midst of leaving the US—her immigrating to Canada and me evacuating the fires in LA to the wet wilds of the UK. If you’re curious to check out our first conversation:
The comments are a subscriber-only space; that’s part of what makes them one of those rare feel-good places in the digital world. This AI (Ally Iseman) is committed to conversations where we lift each other up. We’ve learned how to talk to each other about stuff that matters in respectful, curiosity-led ways, even if it’s uncomfortable. If you’d like to join the discussion, subscribe below.
